Famous violinist Nigel Kennedy to perform at Ohrid Summer FestivalOhrid, 16 July 2011 (MIA) - Rehearsing in front of cameras in a rather unusual time for a press conference close to midnight, world-famous virtuoso and one of the bestselling violinists, maestro Nigel Kennedy announced late on Friday his performance on Saturday at the Ohrid Summer Festival.
Kennedy's indisputable talent and technique as well as his charm guarantee an unforgettable evening for fans of classical and jazz music.
"We, the musicians, are privileged to do what we love. Hence we are obliged to offer to all those who work something else several pleasant hours of music," Kennedy told journalists at the balcony of "Inex Gorica" hotel in Ohrid.
Festival's exclusive guest, who is an avid football fan of Aston Villa F.C., presented the program of tonight's concert, including combined performances of pieces by Bach and American jazz musician Fats Waller, not excluding the possibility of performing music from the region.
"I'm very excited to be here. I'm in Macedonia for the first time, but I've been acquainted with the music from the region, some wonderful songs that have been passed on from generation to generation," Kennedy said.
Residing in Krakow and London in between tours, which take more than two thirds of his time, the musician said he preferred to play in clubs, due to the closeness with the audience, but emphasised that he did his best while playing at classical concerts such as the one in Ohrid.
The first part of Saturday's concert includes a solo performance, whereas in the second part he will play jazz music accompanied by Yaron Stavi on double bass, Rolf Bussald on guitar and Krzysztof Dziedzic on drums.
Nigel Kennedy will play an invaluable violin made by master Guiseppe Guarneri back in 1736.
