UMD presents Life Achievement award to first Macedonia's President GligorovSkopje, 5 September 2011 (MIA) - The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) presented Monday the Life Achievement Award to the first President of Macedonia, Kiro Gligoriov, for his contribution to the country's independence.
The award of the most influential Macedonian Diaspora organization was presented to Gligorov at his home in Skopje in honor of Macedonia's Independence Day - September 8.
Extending gratitude for the award, Gligorov said that in the first, hard years of Macedonia's independence, he drew strength for his efforts from the inexhaustible wisdom of Macedonia people, who chose peaceful, democratic and dignified road to realizing the eternal aspiration for own state.
He also gave credit to UMD for its efforts to affirm Macedonia across the globe, Gligorov's Cabinet said in a press release.
